My discovery and subsequent love for Emily West came after seeing her perform on Celebrity Apprentice for Holly Robinson Peete’s team. She came in with her throwback look and the team had to reinvent her look for a kick off event. Cyndi Lauper got her put together and stripped her of some of her quirky awesomeness. However, when she took the stage to sing “Blue Sky”, I was hooked.  This song was released as a single featuring background vocals by Keith Urban. For some reason, it didn’t really take off and THAT is certainly something that I will never understand. Maybe the lyrics are a bit over the top and cliche, but damn, listen to her voice.

Apprentice Performance

Most recently, I was reminded of Emily West when she showed up as a cracked out singer on ABC’s “Body of Proof”. Looks like someone is taking to the little screen to build up some much deserved street cred. The song below, “Head On” is a song that  was written specifically for her character. Funny enough, it was co-written by another amazing individual in the music scene, Trent Dabbs. This song would probably sound pretty amazing as a duet with Mr. Dabbs, but I’ll let them come up with that idea on their own. The song speaks to those who just need to persevere and keep on keeping on. Take it head on… even if you lose… head on

I was pleased to be perusing iTunes releases (since I got $37,034 worth of gift cards for Christmas -exaggeration) and coming across “I Hate You I Love You” by Ms. Emily West. Although it is only an EP, I was pleased to know that I had that many more songs to listen to her powerful voice. In my mind, she sounds like a younger, country version of broadway star, Linda Eder.

My big fear with this EP is that there may not be a standout radio hit and therefore we have to rely on television/movie placement or iTunes hits. The one song that could hit the airwaves would be “My Story”. It has the country radio feel and would make for a good “here’s who I am” video. However, her voice shines more on other tracks, but this one could at least get her out there. There is a longing-for-something-better song, “Supergirl” which I am sure that many women can connect with. Then again, “I Hate You I Love You” might also speak to many in tumultuous relationships.

01 – Boys In the Morning
02 – Dangers of Love
03 – All My Fault
04 – Supergirl
05 – I Hate You, I Love You Again
06 – My Story

As you can tell, this woman has the chops to make it in the industry. Let’s hope she gets the attention she deserves.
