Back in January, I posted about Magic City from the NATPE conference in Miami Beach, Florida. I went to a poolside chat with the cast and producers to hear a little bit about the new STARZ show. Well, since then, STARZ has already renewed the project for a second season. I like to think it was because of my blog post, but that would just be presumptuous. However, the first episode of Magic City has yet to air. It’s debut is April 6th at 10pm on STARZ. I’m wondering if it will be on Amazon on Demand for download so that I can keep up.
For now, an article on the Huffington Post, that is linking to my site somehow (SWEET!), has an embedded, edited (blurred nudity, silenced bad words) version of the first episode.
Take a view:
First take:
The imagery is awesome. Glad to see that it was filmed in Miami Beach as they promised. The sets, costumes, etc. seem to be true to the decade (from what I know about it), but not over the top nor in your face. The episode centers around Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s character, Ike Evans (owner of Miramar Playa), trying to prevent the union picketers from potentially shutting down his hotel. It is New Years Eve and Frank Sinatra will be playing his club at midnight. Along the way, we are introduced to his sons (Danny and Stevie), wife, and other seemingly pivotal characters (those I saw back in January by the pool). It seems as though Ike is in over his head with the mobsters…and his family isn’t quite helping making things easier.
Fingers crossed that Amazon will show me new episodes after they air. I’m ready for episode two.
Will you watch episode two?
