My friend Kendall wrote about the touring dilemma of smaller local bands on his blog – www.otownmusic.com.
I guess this article really shows me why people I like don’t ever tour in Orlando. Are we too far from the base of places that are easy to get to and worth the small guarantee? It is amazing to me that people do not quite realize that sometimes it takes money to make money. When recording an album, unless you have done KickStarter or something similar, you have to put out money to get it created in the hopes that people hear it and want to buy it. So in this case, spend some money up front to get in front of people and hope that the more you do it, the more news spreads about you. Then you have more at the concert and more buying merchandise. Win win. That is all true — unless your band sucks.
