So, this weekend I decided to check out the new version of DALLAS on TNT. Before it’s launch, I was unsure if this would be something that would interest me, especially since I had never seen the original series from 78-91. However, I knew the gist and, to my surprise, I was hooked on the new series within the first 20 minutes of the show. I feel a little bit of shame in admitting this, but I’m sure that I have shared far more embarrassing likes on this blog. Seriously, check it out.
Whereas the old series had a set of feuding brothers at the front of the story, this time we have a set of feuding cousins fighting for control of the Ewing family compound/area/whatever, called SouthFork. The feuding brothers from the original series, Bobby and JR, are present in this series and only add fuel to the fire of the war waging between their sons, Chris (Bobby’s) and John Ross (JR’s). Chris and John Ross both have some stunning girlfriends/wives to add into the cast.
Smart move rebooting this series – leave in some of the old cast members and story lines and continue them on years later with familiar actors. Seems like a formula for success merging multiple demographics.
People are not who they seem on this show — I am hooked. Are you?
